K5 community action

Rabbit baitsIn March 2017 a new strain of Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV1 K5) was released across Australia. It was the first new rabbit biocontrol agent release in 20 years.

To capitalise on this once-in-a-generation opportunity, VRAN convened a workshop in February 2017 to inform and coordinate decision-making and action. It brought together the key groups and government agencies who undertake or influence rabbit management across Victoria.

To complement the workshop  and to improve the effectiveness of RHDV K5, VRAN funded a series of Community Action Grants. The grants supported 11 Victorian community groups to take advantage of the RHDV K5 knockdown, funding projects that build community engagement, collaboration and best-practice rabbit management skills.
